Trends in Kitchen and Bath Design

A truly stylish bathroom or kitchen is one that will remain that way for many years to come- one that features classic style elements that are always in fashion. However, with that said, it can be fun to follow the latest trends in bathroom and kitchen design. The key is just to avoid making any major changes that can’t be undone without a lot of time, money, and effort. Making small changes for style- changes that you can undo or change up once the trend passes or you grow tired of it- allows you to have the fun of fads without any of the drawbacks.

One of the big trends right now, in kitchen and bathroom design, is choosing muted, versatile colors that allow homeowners to play around with accessories and accoutrements. Most people are steering away from the easily-dirty white walls, floors, and cabinets and are instead going for subtle grays and beiges.

Speaking of cabinets, modern cabinets are relying less on ornamentation and heavy design features and instead are now looker cleaner, sleeker, and plainer. Nowadays, people want cabinets that blend into their kitchens rather than standing out and acting as show-pieces.

While cabinets and other décor items may be growing simpler, there is a demand for appliances and other kitchen and bathroom staples that are more advanced and high-tech. There is obviously a growing concern for the environment based on the number of people who are now requesting energy and water conserving appliances and gadgets.

Of course, that’s not to stay that style and a flair for the dramatic have gone away entirely in favor of practicality. For example, people are requesting fancier countertops, leaning toward quartz, composite, and granite varieties.  There’s also a fallback to older styles, such as wood flooring.
And a surprise trend that has captivated homeowners is addition of “electronic fireplaces.” These are cropping up more in bathrooms, living rooms, and other relaxation areas, but they aren’t the electrically-powered fireplaces you may be thinking of…at least not in the traditional sense. These are “fireplaces” that play on a flat-screen television. While these fire-places don’t produce any real warmth, they look nice and can provide that cozy ambiance without the expense or risk of having a real fireplace put in.

Obviously, there are a lot of hot, new trends in kitchen, bath, and general home design. There’s no harm in reading up on the latest fads and trying out the ones that you like. Just remember that, in the long-run, making big changes isn’t recommended since the classics always win out in the end.
