If you’re having a home built, you have the choice
of having one or more stories or floors to your home. If you do ultimately
decide to have more than one floor, then you’ll have to choose a staircase for
your home. In today’s homes staircases come in all shapes and sizes and in a
myriad of materials. Many times a
staircase greets visitors as they enter your home, being in a place of
importance, staircases can make a bold statement and set the tone for the rest
of your house.
Should your
floor plans require a simple, straight up and down staircase, this does not mean
it needs to be boring. You can enhance its appearance with the materials and
colors used. Staircases, even simply shaped ones can be quite beautiful with
the materials chosen. Whether it be a hardwood, a mix of hardwood and carpet, finished
concrete or lighted glass blocks, your stairway is limited only by your
imagination. Look around at design
sites, such as Houzz.com, what you find is amazing.
For a fancier and
modern staircase, you could choose a curving design, a circular design, an open riser or even something totally “original.”
Just realize that the more complex and difficult to build your staircase is,
the more money you’re looking at spending. Will it add value to your home?
That’s hard to say, but, as the same with curb appeal, it can make or break a
deal. Consider not only your own design aesthetic, but also, should you sell
your home, what does it bring to the value.
As you know, there
are a lot of decisions to be made as you design and plan for your new or
remodeled home. Pay attention to the details that will make your house not only
a home but a statement of you and your great taste.
