Custom Home Builders vs. Production Home Builders

There are few things more exciting than building your own home! However, before you can get to the truly exciting parts, like seeing the frame erected or actually moving in, there is a lot of planning and decision making to do. One of the first and most important decisions you’ll have to make is whether you want to go with a custom home builder or a production builder.

Production builders tend to be large, professional tract home building companies. The teams that work there are constantly building multiple homes, therefore, your home would never be the sole project of your builders. Also, in most cases, there would only be so many design choices you would be allowed make. Production builders usually have a set line-up of home and design plans that you can choose from, though, these plans can generally be semi-customized somewhat to suit your wishes.

Custom builders, on the other hand, are all about building your dream home from scratch. As a homeowner-to-be, you would be heavily involved in every part of your home’s production, from choosing and helping to create the floor plan to picking the exact color paint used on each and every wall in your home. For people who want to be in total control of their new homes, custom builders are the way to go.

There is really no right or wrong choice; it’s just about what works for you and your budget. You’ll want to consider how customized you want your home to be, cost, and a variety of other factors as you make your decisions.
