It’s no surprise that people love their pets. In fact, they
often love them so much that they treat and view them as members of the family.
What might come as a surprise to you, however, is that it’s becoming
increasingly common for homeowners-to-be to request “pet suites” or even entire
“pet floors” in their new homes. Home builders are honoring this desire, and
many companies have even come up with standard pet suite offerings.
So, what does a pet suite include? Really, it can include
anything you want. A lot of them have washing stations for bathing pets, easy
access to the backyard, and lots of open lounging and running space for a furry
friend to relax.
Of course, not all pet suite requests are about luxury. Some
of them are just about convenience and practicality. For example, some people
just want a separate space for their pets so that they don’t have free range to
mess up the home. Others want special flooring so they won’t have to deal with
pet stains, or climate-controlled rooms for pets that must be specially kept,
such as reptiles.
Even among homeowner who don’t request full-on pet suites,
it’s not at all uncommon for accommodations to be made for pets, such as
built-in crates, carved-out spaces for feeding dishes and litter boxes,
electronic pet doors controlled by a pet’s collar, and outdoor showers.
If you have a family pet who means the world to you, think
about incorporating it into your home design. You can go all out and create a
suite or a room designed to make your pet happy, or you can just add in a few
little pet-friendly touches. The choice is up to you, but it’s certainly nice
to have that choice!
